Ajowa Nzinga Ifateyo introduces an initiative in Philadelphia in 2016: 20 funded study groups were formed, within the city’s most economically marginalised black and brown communities, with the intention of preparing members of each group to found and manage a co-operative business. The educational approach gave members the impetus to identify needs within the community; to learn about co-operative principles; and to learn the financial, legal, and social processes in order to make more informed decisions about the management of the co-operative.
